Entry-level has a different meaning when you’re
talking about something from Mercedes-AMG, so it comes as little surprise the
GT 53 4-Door Coupe costs a whopping US$ 99,995.
While some customers might balk at the nearly six-figure
price tag, the model costs significantly less than the GT 63 Coupe Four-Door
Coupe. That particular car starts at US$ 137,495 which makes the GT 53 seem like a
downright bargain.
There are some pretty big differences
between the two models and the largest change is under the hood. Where the GT
63 has a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine pumping out 577 hp and 799 Nm of torque, the GT 53 comes with a turbocharged 3.0-liter
inline-six producing 429 hp and 520 Nm of torque.
However, it’s backed up by a small electric motor that contributes an
additional 21 hp and 249 Nm of torque.
The powertrain is connected to a nine-speed
transmission and an AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system. This setup
enables the car to accelerate from 0-96 km in 4.4 seconds before
hitting a limited top speed of 280 km/h.
The Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe will arrive at
U.S. dealerships this spring and come standard with an
electronically-deployable rear spoiler, an AMG Ride Control sport suspension
and six-piston front brake calipers with a silver painted finish. The model
will also have GPS navigation and a Burmester surround sound system.
