According to a number of sources, the 2020 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 will be
powered by a naturally-aspirated 3.8-liter flat-six engine delivering 420 hp.
That may not be 911 GT3 levels of power, but the Cayman GT4’s compact size and
mid-engined layout means 420 hp should be more than enough.
Porsche owners love manual transmissions and the automaker
will keep them happy by initially selling the new Cayman GT4 exclusively with a
six-speed stick shift. Those who don’t want to row their own gears will have to
wait a little longer for a PDK option to be made available.
Preliminary reports assert that the Porsche 718
Cayman GT4 will accelerate to 100 km/h in a brisk 4 seconds while the
sports car’s top speed will sit at 297 km/h. The previous-generation
Cayman GT4 hit 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and could run through to a top speed of 295 km/h.
This prototype filmed in Germany is fitted with the
same aerodynamic upgrades we’ve seen featured on other testers. Consequently,
there is a large fixed wing at the rear, an aggressive diffuser, and a
prominent front splitter. The sports car also includes a set of sporty black
wheels inevitably shod in exceptionally sticky rubber.
The new Cayman GT4 will also weigh less than its
cheaper counterparts and could drop as much as 50 kg on unnecessary
weight. The 2020 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 will allegedly premiere at July’s
Goodwood Festival of Speed.
