Indonesian motorcycle website Iwanbanaran seems to
have published the images of the new Yamaha MT-25/MT-03. The spy image does not
reveal a lot of details, but the person who captured the photograph said that
the test mule was equipped with a Honda CBR2500RR-style swingarm and
upside-down forks.
The fully-faired variants of the MT-25 and MT-03
received a facelift in October last year, but they are yet to. While the spy
images do not reveal many details, the new MT-25 and new MT-03 are expected to
look almost identical to the new MT-15. This would mean the smaller models
featuring a projector-style headlight with LED DRLs.
The revised cockpit will include a fully digital
instrument console that will be identical to the unit of the YZF-R25 and
YZF-R3. Steering duties will be performed by a flat, single-piece handlebar
that will provide upright ergonomics. The fuel tank design will be revised,
while the radiator will receive shrouds for a premium looks.
The step-up seat will be traded for a flat,
single-piece saddle. The rear section, like the YZF-R25 and YZF-R3, will most
likely retain the tail light from the current model. Hardware specifications will be
revised, and the updated model will feature upside-down telescopic forks like
the new YZF-R25 and new YZF-R3. The rear will continue to use a monoshock unit.
Do note that the Euro-V norms will come into effect from April 2020, and we
expect the new Yamaha MT-25/MT-03 to receive revisions to the engine to comply
with the emission norms.
The current MT-25 uses a 249 cc
liquid-cooled, 8-valve, DOHC, parallel-twin cylinder engine that delivers 35.5
bhp at 12,000 rpm and 22.6 Nm at 10,000 rpm. The MT-03 uses a 321 cc
liquid-cooled, 8-valve, DOHC, parallel-twin cylinder motor that churns out 41
bhp at 10,750 rpm and 29.6 Nm of peak torque at 9,000 rpm. Both engines are
paired with a 6-speed transmission.
