Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) has just taken the
covers off the Hyundai Venue, which is being touted as 'India's first connected
SUV'. The new Maruti Vitara Brezza rival has been unveiled on a vessel sailing
through the Arabian Sea.
The smallest Hyundai SUV ever has
simultaneously made its motorshow debut at the 2019 New York International Auto
Show. It will be launched on 21 May.
Hyundai says that the Venue has been meticulously
crafted to meet the needs of the Indian youth who seek a
technologically-advanced vehicle. The new small SUV offers a bold and youthful
look with traditional SUV proportions and modern styling elements.
The
front-end bears a resemblance with the Hyundai Kona and features a similar
cascading grille and composite light setup, while the side profile reminds one
of the Hyundai Creta with similar straight lines and DLO. The rear-end looks
dynamic with a neatly-sculpted tailgate and squarish tail lamps.
Inside, the Hyundai Styx features a dual tone
beige-grey colour theme and is made up of high-quality materials. A floating
type touchscreen infotainment takes centre stage on the dashboard. It is
flanked by squarish central air vents with rounded corners. The new model marks
the local debut of the company's ‘Blue Link’ connected car technologies, which
offers 33 connected car features, of which 10 are India-specific.
The features
list of the new model includes projector headlamps with LED DRLs, LED tail
lamps, projector fog lamps, electric sunroof,
wireless charger, Arkamys sound driver, cornering lights and a cooled glovebox.
The safety suite comprises ABS with EBD, 6 airbags, ESC with VSM, HAC, BA and
ISOFIX child seat mounts.
The Hyundai Venue will be sold with three engine
options: 1.0-litre Kappa T-GDI turbocharged direct-injection petrol, 1.2-litre
Kappa naturally-aspirated petrol, and 1.4-litre CRDI turbocharged diesel. The
turbo-petrol motor outputs a maximum power of 120 PS and a peak torque of 175
Nm, while the naturally aspirated motor offers 83 PS and 90 Nm.
The oil-burner
provides 90 PS and 224 Nm. The more powerful gasoline mill will be available
with 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and 6-speed manual transmissions, while the
base petrol motor will come mated to a 5-speed manual unit. The oil-burner will
be paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.
