As Bugatti continues testing the Divo before it
commences deliveries, we’ve been given the chance to take another look at the
spectacular hypercar. Seen somewhere in Germany by a car spotter, who sent the images to
Autogespot, this one appears to be a prototype. It has the same matte black
look as another test vehicle, images of which driven by development engineer
Julia Lemke during hot weather testing were released by Bugatti itself.
Customer deliveries are bound to commence later this
year, but no matter how much money you’re willing to throw at them, Bugatti
will not sell you one. That’s because all 40 units of the Divo were already
sold out even before it was shown to the world last summer at Pebble Beach.
Thus, the only way to get your hands on it is to search the “used” car market
for a build slot, like this one, which goes for a whopping US$ 9 million.
With its new body panels and other bits and pieces,
the Divo looks nothing like the Chiron, on which it is based. It also uses the
same 8.0-liter W16 quad-turbo behemoth of an engine that puts out 1,500 PS and 1,600 Nm of torque.
While Bugatti made headlines by breaking the
long-standing speed record held by the McLaren F1 with the Veyron, the Chiron is
limited the top speed to 380 km/h. That doesn’t seem like much
compared to the 431 km/h Veyron SS, but the automaker claims that
current tire technology doesn’t allow for it to try a new record – and,
besides, sheer speed is not what the Chiron or the Divo are all about. Or
that’s the official line anyway.
