While in most western European markets Citroën
doesn’t offer sedans anymore, in China it sells five different models. The C4 L
is one of them and it has just received important updates, although they aren’t
really noticeable from the outside.
Citroën introduced the C4 L in 2012 and gave it a
facelift in 2016, so the exterior of the car remains largely the same.
The interior is completely overhauled. The
dashboard is all-new and adopts a more contemporary look thanks to a bigger
9-inch touchscreen that operates a newer infotainment system with voice
control. Placed at the upper end of the center console, the display dominates
the dashboard which is now available in a two-tone look.
Other updates include a new climate control unit,
three-spoke steering wheel, a multifunction display between the dials,
redesigned air vents, and door cards, as well as an electronic parking brake.
Overall, the dashboard looks less cluttered and more modern than the previous
model’s, which was sourced from the European-spec C4 hatchback.
Speaking of the C4 hatchback, the C4 L continues to
ride on the same platform as the model that got discontinued in Europe.
However, it has a 110-mm longer wheelbase to cater for Chinese
customers’ preferences, which means passengers enjoy more knee room and legroom
on the rear seats – and explains the “L” suffix in its name.
Nothing changes under the hood, with the C4 L
carrying on with 136 PS 1.2-liter and 167 PS turbocharged
gasoline engines, with the latter featuring an automatic transmission as
standard.
