Is there such thing as having too much carbon fiber
add-ons on a car? Not if it’s a Mercedes-AMG G63 tuned by Liberty Walk. Merc’s previous-gen super SUV has
received a complete body kit that’s available in FRP, CFRP and Dry Carbon, with
the most expensive option costing US$ 23,890 for markets outside Japan.
In the fully loaded offering, it consists of a
specific grille, front apron, fender flares, hood, front roof spoiler, rear
wing and spare wheel cover. The lesser version of the tuning kit costs US$ 19,560
in Dry Carbon and misses out on the spare wheel cover and front grille, whereas
the base pack drops the front roof spoiler and custom bonnet as well and costs US$ 12,000.
Going for the same look as this AMG G63 means having
to select the aftermarket exhaust system and wheels too, as well as the special
decals that adorn several parts of the exterior. Liberty Walk hasn’t tuned the
engine, but it’s not like the AMG G-Wagen is in dire need of power. Quite the
opposite, as even this previous generation model has a very healthy 563 hp and 760 Nm of torque courtesy of its 5.5-liter
twin-turbo V8 that’s coupled to a 7-speed auto.
The official 0 to 100 km/h acceleration
is completed in 5.3 seconds, while top speed is capped at 209 km/h top speed. Not bad for an “old” model with the aerodynamics of a brick.
