Last year proved a challenging one for Tesla as it
labored its way through production hell first, and “delivery logistics hell”
later. In 2019, the electric car manufacturer is looking to further boost
production and sales of its vehicles and has called upon the all-electric Semi
to help out.
Thus, it has released a series of pictures and
promotional videos showing a Semi prototype carrying four different Teslas and
delivering them to customers. One of the videos shows the eager customers of a
new Tesla excitedly taking delivery when a Semi rolls into their neighborhood
with their car on the trailer. Elements of the delivery appear to be staged,
but still, it seems obvious that the company believes the Semi can play an
important part in delivering its passenger vehicles to customers in the future.
Tesla first published a tweet of the following
silver Semi carrying four cars at the end of March and all promotional content
released feature the same truck in California. Consequently, this ‘delivery’
was probably a one-off and may only happen more frequently when the company
wants to spruik the Semi and retain customer interest in the vehicle.
Right now, Tesla is focusing on production and
deliveries of its entry-level Model 3 and the Semi is still some time off
reaching the assembly line. This was initially supposed to happen at some stage
in 2019, but it appears increasingly likely that it will be pushed back to
2020.
