BMW Motorrad will launch the 2019 S1000RR in India
on 25 June. The unofficial, pre-bookings for the litre-class supersport
motorcycle had begun at select dealerships in February. The company had also
teased the bike via its Instagram handle then, but it had remained tight-lipped
about the launch details.
With the MY2019 update, the BMW S1000RR has received
several visual and mechanical upgrades, and thus, we expect it to carry a
higher price than the outgoing motorcycle’s INR 17.90 lakh (ex-showroom,
Mumbai) tag. It has dropped the asymmetric headlamp design for a pair of
sleeker lights. The fairing retains the asymmetric design, but the fins on the
right side have been blacked out for a stealthy look. The cockpit has also been
revised and features a new 6.5-inch display.
The facelifted BMW S1000RR sports a newly developed
999 cc in-line 4-cylinder, Euro-V ready engine that produces 8 hp more than the
old engine. This engine produces 207 hp at 13,500 rpm and 113 Nm of torque at
11,000 rpm. The motor benefits from BMW ShiftCam Technology and is 4 kg lighter
than its predecessor. The BMW ShiftCam tech varies the valve timings and valve
strokes on the intake side.
The new S1000RR offers four modes, namely Rain,
Road, Dynamic and Race, as standard. "Pro Modes" that add three more
riding modes (Race Pro 1-3) and also launch control to the package are as an
option internationally. The 2019 model tips the weighing scale at 197 kg. This
means that it's 11 kg lighter and has a better power-to-weight ratio. Standard
electronics include Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), DTC Wheelie Function, ABS
Pro and Shift Assistant Pro for clutchless up- and down-shifts.
In other updates, the BMW S1000RR has received M
options and M Performance Parts. The M package further reduces the weight to
193.5 kg. It adds a motorsport paint, M carbon fibre wheels, lightweight
battery, M sport seat and the Pro Modes. The kit also brings M chassis kit with
rear ride height adjustment and swingarm pivot. The BMW S1000RR will compete with
the Kawasaki ZX-10R, Yamaha YZF-R1 and the Ducati Panigale V4.
