Honda has filed a patent for a smart key for the
CBR250RR. The quarter-litre motorcycle will likely gain this feature with the
MY2020 update that is expected to be a mid-life refresh. The motorcycle can be unlocked
and started when the key fob is in close proximity. The key fob will also
feature a "Lock Button" that can be used to lock or unlock the
handlebar. A similar feature is currently seen on premium segment motorcycles
like the Ducati Multistrada range and the BMW GS series.
Apart from the addition of keyless ignition, the
Honda CBR250RR will receive Euro-V emission norm compliance and minor visual
changes with the MY2020 update. The visual changes may include new graphics and
tweaked styling to the fascia and the bodywork. The company may also implement
weight-saving measures to give the quarter-litre model a better power-to-weight
ratio.
There are rumours about a new instrument panel as well. It would be
interesting to see if Honda introduces Bluetooth connectivity. Mechanical changes, apart from the Euro-V
upgrade, may include the introduction of assist and slipper clutch along with a
quickshifter.
The current Honda CBR250RR uses a 250 cc parallel
twin-cylinder, 8-valve, DOHC, liquid-cooled engine that churns out 38.7 PS at
12,500 rpm and 23.3 Nm of torque at 11,000 rpm. The engine is paired with a
6-speed transmission and can propel the motorcycle to a top speed of 170 km/h.
The motorcycle has a throttle-by-wire system, and it offers three riding modes
– Comfort, Sports and Sports+. Full-LED lighting, petal-type discs on both
ends, dual-channel ABS, upside-down front forks and five-step adjustable
pre-link suspension are some other highlights of the current model.
