The current Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe doesn’t
exactly look old but the German automaker is hard at work developing a facelift
for the entire E-Class family. Images for our trusty spy photographers show that the alterations
made to the E-Class Coupe will be quite minor. Sure, the prototype pictured
does feature some tape across its front and rear but it’s pretty obvious that
there are no dramatic styling changes on the cards.
Up front, the presence of camouflage across the
front bumper indicates that Mercedes has developed some new elements at the
car’s fascia, including revised air intakes. Additionally, alterations have
clearly been made to the headlights.
Curiously, there are no other parts of the car which
are hidden from view, except for the rear fascia where there is some tape over
the new taillights. While Mercedes has clearly designed new taillights for the
E-Class Coupe, they will remain very similar to those units found on the
C-Class Coupe and S-Class Coupe. Interior changes will probably be limited and may include a new
steering wheel, touchpad, and the latest version of the company’s excellent
MBUX infotainment system.
Those hoping the small styling changes would make
way for big mechanical updates will likely be disappointed. We don’t expect to
see any significant changes made to the current engine line-up, meaning the
company’s relatively-new straight-six petrol and diesel units will remain on
offer. As the current E-Class Coupe isn’t sold in potent E63 AMG guise, we
don’t expect the facelifted model to get the company’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8.
The facelifted Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe should
premiere before the end of the year or in early 2020.
