Sold since January 2014 as a 2015MY, the fourth-gen
Cadillac Escalade is reportedly getting ready to be replaced. The spy
photographers captured three heavily camouflaged prototypes on camera late last
year, and the initial information hinted towards a possible reveal before the
end of 2019.
However, CadillacSociety, which cites an anonymous
insider with knowledge on the matter, claims the new Escalade won’t arrive
until 2020. The same report states that the outgoing Escalade will soldier on
for the 2020MY with modest updates, such as a new color that will be added to
the palette.
Looking to shed more light on the case, we got in
touch with Cadillac, but all we got was the customary
“cannot comment on future products” line. As previous scoops have revealed,
the 2021 Escalade will retain its massive proportions and boxy styling that
have made the nameplate a hit with customers. The thick layers of camouflage
prevent us from discerning any major updates, but we do expect restyled front
and rear fascias, as well as a new grille design similar to the brand’s smaller
SUVs.
The big news is the adoption of a new
platform and independent rear suspension which should make the ride more
comfortable. The current 420 horsepower 6.2-liter V8 will likely be retained
and will allegedly be joined by two more units down the road, with possible
candidates including the 4.2-liter V8 from the CT6 and a plug-in hybrid
powertrain.
