As a known maker of bicycles and electric bicycles, BMW makes no exception. Through its BMW Lifestyle division,
the Bavarian company has announced it will launch the BMW E-Scooter from
September 2019.
Developed in collaboration with Micro, the inventor
of the Micro Scooter, the E-Scooter offers a range of 12 kilometers and is capable of traveling at speeds of up to 20 km/h. The electric
scooter is motivated by a rear wheel-mounted 150-watt motor fed by a
lithium-ion battery placed into the footplate.
Recharging the battery to full capacity takes two
hours. Stopping power is ensured by two separate braking systems. Despite
packing all this tech, the BMW E-Scooter tips the scales at just 9 kg and features a space-saving design that allows it to be folded up very
easily. Featuring a matte-black color design and embedded front and rear
lights, the E-Scooter will be offered with a suggested retail price of € 799
(US$ 895) in Germany.
Besides the E-Scooter, BMW Lifestyle presents the
City Scooter and the Kids Scooter. Also created in cooperation with Micro,
these are regular scooters with no electric propulsion. The City Scooter costs
€ 200 (US$ 225) and comes with a triple-secured folding and locking mechanism,
large wheels, and low footplate with an integrated kickstand.
Available for € 120 (US$ 135), the size-shifting Kids
Scooter is available in two color combinations and is designed for children
between 3 and 12 years old. The seat can be simply taken off and the height of
the handlebars adjusted as the rider gets taller. All BMW scooters can be purchased
at selected BMW dealers.
