2019 is shaping up to be an exciting year for
Ferrari as the Italian company announced it will reveal a hybrid supercar
before the end of this month. Ferrari CEO Louis Camilleri made the announcement during the
company’s Q1 2019 earnings call on May 7.
The first model he was talking about is the F8
Tributo unveiled earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show. Ferrari’s hybrid
supercar will be sold in parallel with the 488 successor, which is likely to go
down in history as the last non-hybrid Berlinetta.
Ferrari’s hybrid mid-engined supercar is no surprise
as there have been countless reports about it and prototypes have been spotted
testing several times. However, the reveal date is a bit surprising, given that
previous intelligence estimated the car would launch sometime in July.
The sooner, the better, right? Not much actual
information is known about the hybrid supercars but recent rumors and reports
talk about a twin-turbo V6 hybrid powertrain with a combined output of 733 PS and a massive 1,084 Nm of torque.
The upcoming hybrid will not be a replacement for
the F8 Tributo — actually, it will be positioned much higher. The new model
“will be above the 812 Superfast,” according to Camilleri. That’s an
interesting tidbit of information, considering that the 812 Superfast’s
front-mounted 6.5-liter V8 engine produces 800 PS and 718
Nm of torque.
