A few days after the BS-VI Mahindra XUV300 made its spy
photo debut, the BS-VI Mahindra XUV500 has been spied for the first time. The
spied SUV can be seen wearing a green BSVI-D sticker above the fuel tank
indicating that it's powered by a diesel engine.
The Mahindra XUV500
comes with 2.2-litre mHawk turbocharged four-cylinder diesel and petrol
engines. The diesel unit produces 155 PS at 3750 rpm and 360 Nm of
torque at 1,750-2,800 rpm in the current BS-IV version, while the petrol engine
delivers 140 PS at 4,500 rpm and 320 Nm of torque at 2,000-3,000
rpm. These specifications, naturally, are of the current, BS-IV version. The
diesel engine is paired with a 6-Speed manual transmission, while the petrol
engine is coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The test mule seen
here is likely employing Mahindra's all-new 2.0-litre diesel engine that is
said to come in three states of tune: 140 hp, 160 hp and 180 hp. This engine will replace the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel
engine. The next-gen Mahindra XUV500 set to arrive by the end of 2020 will
reportedly sport the most powerful version. However, which version will power
the current Mahindra XUV500 from April 2020 until the fully redesigned model
arrives is yet to be known. As for the 2.2-litre mHawk petrol engine, it could
be dropped by March 2020.
This week, Mahindra
launched a new 'W3' entry-level grade of the XUV500. The W3 grade is priced at
INR 12,30,776 (ex-showroom Delhi). The previous entry-level grade, W5,
continues being sold. It is priced at INR 12,89,765 (ex-showroom Delhi).
