Rivian presented an
intriguing camper version of the R1T pickup truck over the weekend during the
Overland Expo West in Flagstaff, Arizona. The show is dedicated to campers and
off-road explorers and Rivian presented an R1T which could be the perfect
companion for long and adventurous journeys away from civilization. One of the
most innovative features of the R1T is the huge storage tunnel it has directly
behind the cabin.
This tunnel can fit
everything from skis and snowboards, as well as large duffel bags. In the case
of the camper version, the storage tunnel has been designed to fit a mobile
kitchen which easily slides in and out. This small kitchen includes a number of
drawers, adequate bench space to prepare a meal, a kettle, and even an electric
stovetop. Powering the stovetop is the pickup’s large battery pack.
In addition to this
mobile kitchen, the R1T pickup presented was outfitted with a tent which sits
above the bed with an access ladder. While Rivian has yet to say if it will
sell the R1T with these features, in particular the mobile kitchen, the pickup
presented does show just how serious the car company is in showing off the
versatility and adventurous nature of the vehicle. A host of patents from
earlier this year revealed that Rivian is also working on a number of modular
beds for the R1T to suit the needs of all buyers.
Rivian intends on
selling the R1T in a number of different guises. The base model will have a 105
kWh battery pack, the mid-range model will support a 135 kWh pack and the
range-topping model will have a 180 kWh battery pack.
