The Smart brand is going to significantly transform
over the next few years, after Daimler sold 50 percent of the company to Geely.
Before making it all-electric, however, they have unveiled a special edition of
the ForTwo, which waves goodbye to the combustion-engine models. Limited to 21 cars, the Final
Collector’s Edition has been created by Brabus and industrial designer
Konstantin Grcic and sports a very colorful look and special badges.
The paint scheme is actually an homage to the
first-gen Smart, with its Brilliant Yellow front end, based on the original
Hello Yellow, whereas the rear end has a matte black finish and #21 graphics on
the doors and wheel center caps.
The number symbolizes different things. For the auto
brand, it represents “21 years of Smart, 21 vehicles and 21 years always a step
ahead”. To Grcic, on the other hand, it’s about “being free, breaking
boundaries, breaking out, showing your rebellious side. The Final Collector’s
Edition brings this essential idea to life as we take our leave of a piece of
automotive history.”
The interior has adopted a similar color scheme,
with yellow found on the dashboard, steering wheel, driver’s seat and door
panels, contrasting the usual black trim. The #21 can be seen on the gearshift
lever and embroidered into the headrests, the handbrake lever has the ‘One of
21’ lettering on the side, the floor mats read ‘Final Collector’s Edition’ and
the door sills have the ‘Konstantin Grcic Design #21’ graphics.
The special edition ForTwo will leave the factory
floor in August.
