German tuner Delta
4×4 has built an off-road-prepped 2019 Jimny that pays tribute to one of its
illustrious predecessors, the LJ80 that was built between 1978 and 1982. More
specifically, it’s an homage to a specific LJ80 that competed in the 1982
Paris-Dakar Rally in the hands of Delta 4×4 owner Josef Loder and Dr. Alois
Schneck. Remarkably, the diminutive Suzuki completed the grueling event and
still survives to this day, serving as a design inspiration for a special Dakar-themed
fourth-gen Jimny.
Delta 4×4 gave the
modern-day Jimny a similar livery (sponsors included) as the classic model.
Obviously, that’s only the tip of the iceberg, as the tuning company also
enhanced the tiny off-roader’s all-terrain capabilities.
The Jimny has been
fitted with a 50 mm lift kit for an even more generous ground
clearance, wider fenders and 8×16-inch Legacy Forged alloy wheels shod in
285/75 R16 Mickey Thompson Baja STZ off-road tires. The set of wheels alone
costs a whopping € 3,800, while the lift kit costs € 990. The
ride height can be increased by a further 30 mm courtesy of
spacers but that will set you back an additional € 850.
The tuning package
also includes an additional headlight behind the driver’s side mirror, priced
at € 390. For another € 390, the company can also fit a bull bar tested
according to EU pedestrian protection guidelines. Other parts that can be added
include a roof rack and a two-ton winch € 1,200.
Add it all up, and
the tally exceeds € 8,500. Guess replicating the original, and not keeping things
affordable, was the prime objective.
