Porsche is gearing up to introduce the 2020 Taycan
at the Frankfurt Motor Show and the company has now begun testing a lightly
camouflaged prototype designed to draw attention. Dressed in a black and blue
livery, there’s no mistaking this prototype for anything else as it sports at
least six different Taycan logos. The model also features prominent “Soul,
electrified.” messaging.
Besides the new wrap, the prototype looks virtually
production. It follows in the footsteps of the Mission E concept, but adopts a
unique front bumper with three blocked off air intakes. Further above, we can
see recessed headlights and functional intakes which channel air to the car’s
high-performance braking system.
The Taycan’s profile is rather stylish as it
features flowing bodywork and a gently sloping roof. Other notable highlights
include front fender vents, aerodynamic side skirts and a charging port mounted
on the driver’s side. At the rear, the model has a distinctive look as it eschews an
exhaust system. It is replaced by a prominent diffuser which helps to improve
aerodynamics. We can also see a practical rear liftgate and familiar
taillights.
Spy photographers didn’t get close enough to snap
interior pictures, but previous photos have shown the model will have a digital
instrument cluster and a three-spoke steering wheel. We can also expect a
widescreen infotainment system and a center stack that angles up to meet the
dashboard.
While Porsche hasn’t released details
specifications, the company has already confirmed the Taycan will have two
electric motors that produce a combined output in excess of 592 hp. This will enable the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in
less than 3.5 seconds and 0-200 km/h in less than 12 seconds. In
terms of range, drivers can expect to travel more than 500 km on a
single charge in the New European Driving Cycle.
