Customers in selected European
countries can pre-order their facelifted 2020 VW Passat. The mid-life update has given the
midsize model subtle styling tweaks, new drive systems and running gear, a
new-generation infotainment system (MIB3), as well as new driver assistance
systems.
The trim level structure has been modified as well
for Europe’s 2020 Passat. Depending on the market, the range kicks off with the
basic version called simply Passat, continues with the mid-range Business
grade, and is topped by the Elegance trim level.
Business and Elegance can also be had with the
R-Line customization package. In addition to these versions, the facelifted
Passat continues to offer high-riding Alltrack and plug-in hybrid GTE model.
All 2020 Passat models bring more standard features including LED headlights
with LED DRLs, side lights and turn signals, LED taillights, infotainment
systems with an integrated SIM card (for online functions), “We Connect”
(online services), Front Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Lane Assist. Optional features include the DCC
adaptive chassis control system, interactive IQ.LIGHT – LED matrix headlights
and the new Travel Assist semi-autonomous driving system, among many other
things.
VW offers a total of five engine choices at the
start of pre-sales. There are two 2.0-liter TSI gasoline engines with 190 PS and 272 PS, respectively, and three diesel engines: a
1.6-liter TDI with 120 PS, a 2.0-liter TDI with 190 PS, and a
2.0-liter TDI biturbo with 240 PS. All five engines come with a
particulate filter and meet the Euro 6d-Temp emission standard.
Later on, customers will also be able to order the
updated Passat GTE, the new Passat 2.0 TDI Evo with mild hybrid assistance, and
the Passat 1.5 TSI Evo. The big news about the 218 PS GTE model is
that it now offers a greater electric range thanks to a larger 13 kWh
lithium-ion battery: up to 55 km (wagon) and 57 km (sedan) in
the WLTP cycle. The 150 PS Passat 2.0 TDI Evo heralds VW’s new
generation of diesel engines and brings lower CO2 emissions than its
predecessor.
Prices in Germany start at € 34,720 for the Passat saloon in 1.6 TDI 120 PS guise, with the
corresponding Passat wagon model priced from € 35,825. The most
expensive model (at least until pricing for the Passat GTE is announced) is the
Passat Alltrack 2.0 TDI 240 PS, which retails for € 50,795.
