The fourth-generation Audi A8 is now on display at Audi Glenmarie, and the local specification model brought in by Euromobil is an A8 L 3.0 TFSI quattro. In its base form, the D5 measures in at 5,172 mm long, 1,945 mm wide and 1,473 mm tall, but the long-wheelbase route adds 130 mm to the wheelbase, increasing the regular car’s 2,998 mm-long wheelbase to 3,128 mm. It also lends this one a slightly taller stance, adding on 12 mm to the height.

Exterior highlights for the Malaysian specification include Matrix HD LED headlights and rear OLED combination lamps, with both front and rear units featuring sequential turn signalling. Also on, auto-dimming side mirrors, a chrome exterior package and a panoramic sunroof. It sits on 15-spoke 19-inch wheels, which are wrapped with 255/45 series tyres.

The interior is dressed with Valcona leather upholstery, with the headliner and rear shelf in Alcantara. As for trim, the upper section inserts are in a shade called Natural Gray Brown Lime Artefact, while that for the lower section is finished in Dark Matte Brushed Aluminium. The Audi virtual cockpit and its 12.3-inch display is present, as is Audi connect and a faster operating MMI navigation plus system with MMI touch response. The A8 L also comes equipped with Matrix LED reading lights, a contour/ambient lighting package, head-up display and a smartphone/Bluetooth interface.

Elsewhere, a B&O Premium 3D sound system handles entertainment duties, and the rear features an Audi music interface and a rear remote, which is a removable 5.7-inch touchscreen that allows adjustment of both sound/media and climate control settings. Speaking of the rear, the car has been configured with a three-seat rear bench, but the two outer units are power adjustable. Other standard fit items include adaptive air suspension and dynamic all-wheel steering, heat-insulating side and rear windows, a four-zone climate control system and ventilation for both front and rear seats.

Motive power for the all-wheel drive offering is provided by a 3.0 litre V6 TFSI mill with a 48-volt mild hybrid system, which captures kinetic energy and sends it to a lithium-ion battery. When fully-charged, this allows the A8 to coast with the engine off at speeds between 55 and 160 km/h for up to 40 seconds, aiding in saving fuel. In this particular application, the EA839 offer 340 hp at 5,000 to 6,400 rpm and 500 Nm from 1,370 to 4,500 rpm, and paired with an eight-speed Tiptronic transmission, allows the A8 L to accomplish the 0-100 km/h run in 5.7 seconds and to get to a 250 km/h top speed. Claimed fuel consumption on a combined basis is 8.2 litres per 100 km.

Safety and driver assist equipment includes an Audi pre sense safety system that provides autonomous emergency braking, Parking aid Plus with a 360-degree display and surround view cameras, while the airbag complement includes front/rear side airbags and a curtain airbag system. Also on the kit list are items such as safety lane departure warning, lane change assistant including exit warning and rear cross-traffic alert.
