The upcoming
all-electric hypercar from Lotus could be named the ‘Evija’, if a recent
trademark registration proves accurate. Auto Express reports that the British
sports car manufacturer recently applied to register that moniker for a host of
different classes, including toys and vehicle development. Lotus has so far
been referring to its electric hypercar as the ‘Type 130’, but we’ve known from
the very outset that this was not going to be used for the production model.
This will be the
first all-new Lotus model for over a decade and will mark its entry into the
top class. Technical specifications about the vehicle still remain unconfirmed,
though it is reported that Williams Advanced Engineering has been recruited to
help bring it to life.
Those with inside
information about the hypercar claim that it will utilize a carbon fiber
monocoque with electric motors driving all four wheels. The battery pack should
be located directly behind the passenger compartment and upwards of 1,000 HP
should be on tap. In addition to the powertrain, Lotus has spent a considerable
amount of time developing advanced active aerodynamics and, in May, Lotus chief
executive Phil Popham described it as a “mind-blowing hypercar, designed,
engineered and built in the UK.”
The Lotus Type 130
isn’t the only all-new vehicle currently being developed by Lotus; work on an
SUV has recently commenced near the company’s UK headquarters, while a
successor to the Evora is expected to debut next year.
