As the premiere of the Chevrolet C8 Corvette inches
closer, a user at the Corvette Forum has rendered the mid-engined supercar in
hardcore ZR1 guise. Most of the C8 ‘Vette prototypes spied testing in recent years are
thought to have been the entry-level Stingray model. However, it is inevitable
that GM’s supercar will, just like all previous-generations, be available in a
number of different configurations.
These renderings preview the car in range-topping
ZR1 form. While spy photographers have yet to snap such a
variant, they did catch a C8.R race car prototype in the midst of testing late
last year. The ZR1 rendering takes some design inspiration from the race, and
is all the better for that.
At the front, there is a large splitter at the lower
end of the bumper. The designer has also fitted sharp canards on either side, a
hood with massive air extractors that should help with the aerodynamics,
extended side skirts and carbon fiber air intakes directly behind the doors to
cool that engine that’s placed at the middle.
While the front half of the car is quite aggressive,
it is at the rear where most of the action is happening, as there is a towering
rear wing with two central uprights, a single exiting tailpipe and a sharp
diffuser to help suck the car to the tarmac.
We’ve heard rumors that the range-topping C8
Corvette, which might or might not carry over the ZR1 moniker, could pump out
up to 1,000 hp from a hybrid V8 powetrain. If it does indeed offer that much
performance in a package which looks like this, Chevrolet will be able to mix
it with a number of much more expensive supercars.
