Ford’s first electric vehicle for the Chinese market
is ready for its launch in the second half of this year. The Ford Territory EV is the
battery-powered version of the Territory SUV launched last year in China. The ICE-powered Territory is essentially a rebadged Yusheng 330 built
by Ford’s joint venture partner Jiangling Motors.
According to Ford, the electric version of the
Territory has an NEDC-rated driving range of 360 km on a single
charge. Specially designed for young urban families, the Territory EV can be
distinguished from regular Territory models thanks to subtle styling tweaks.
Those include the model-specific hexagonal front
grille with a honeycomb pattern and “golden copper” trim, the C-shaped LED
DRLs, aero-style wheels, and a rear end devoid of exhaust pipes and featuring
LED taillights with a distinct signature.
Inside, the Ford Territory EV looks very similar to
the ICE-powered model save for the unique transmission lever and 10.25-inch EV-specific
digital instrument panel. A 10-inch central LCD touchscreen is also standard. Onboard safety tech includes
front collision warning, parking assist system, blind spot monitoring, lane
departure warning, intelligent high beam control and traffic sign recognition,
among other systems.
The Territory EV will be assembled at Jiangling
Motors and will go on sale in the second half of the year in China. The
electric SUV is the first electrified vehicle that will be launched under
Ford’s new product plan for China announced in April.
Over the next three years, the U.S. automaker will
introduce more than 30 new and upgraded vehicles including 10 electrified
models under the Ford and Lincoln brands in China.
