Mercedes is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the G-Class by introducing the Stronger Than Time special edition. Equipped with the AMG Line styling package, the special edition has sporty bumpers, flared wheel arches and a sports exhaust system (on the G500). The SUV has also been equipped with 20-inch wheels that cover Mercedes-Benz branded brake calipers.

The styling changes don’t end there as the model has the Stainless Steel Package which adds running boards, door sill plates and a spare tire cover. The special edition also comes with the Night Package which includes tinted lighting units, tinted rear windows and darkened exterior elements. Last but not least, the model has “Stronger Than Time” badging as well as welcome lights that project the message onto the ground.

Moving into the cabin, there’s black nappa leather with golden contrast stitching and open-pore black ash wood trim. Drivers will also find a leather-wrapped grab handle with “Stronger Than Time” badging. Customers looking for something more unique can order the two-tone Exclusive Interior Plus package. It adds either beige and yacht blue leather with Sen wood trim or macchiato beige and lounge red leather with black piano trim.

Regardless of which interior is selected, the special edition comes equipped with ambient lighting, active multicontour seats and a Burmester surround sound system. Other niceties include a glass sunroof, an adaptive damping suspension and a Driving Assistance Package.

The special edition can be equipped with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that produces 416 hp and 610 Nm of torque. Customers can also order an exclusive G400 which features a six-cylinder diesel engine that develops 325 hp and 700 Nm of torque. Buyers looking for something more powerful can opt for Mercedes-AMG G 63 Stronger Than Time edition which pays tribute to 20th anniversary of the original G 55 AMG. It has a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 with 577 hp and 850 Nm of torque. The engine is connected to a nine-speed automatic transmission and a rear-biased all-wheel drive system with three differential locks. This setup enables the SUV to rocket from 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, before hitting a top speed of up to 240 km/h.

The AMG variant is tad different than the rest as it features a dark chrome grille and a matte chrome finish on the mirror caps, running boards and exterior trim strips. The model also has 22-inch wheels and a two-tone interior with carbon fiber trim.
