allegedly depicts the 2020 Captur – and, if legit, shows that Renault’s
crossover sports a bolder design compared the outgoing model.
The second-generation Captur has been in the works
for quite some time. Back in April, we spotted a prototype testing in Southern
Spain; that particular car was covered in black and white camouflage but didn’t
appear to have so many changes. This video and newly-surfaced image of the
crossover demonstrate that the French automaker did a good job at hiding the
new looks.
The first thing you’ll likely notice about the new
Captur is the presence of lobster-claw shaped headlights much like the Megane
and other models in the Renault family. These new headlights have proven to be
somewhat controversial for Renault but certainly add some additional aggression
to the vehicle. While the headlights are drastically different, the shape of the
central grille is quite similar to the current model, but the lower fascia is
now a separate unit flanked by fog lights on either side. A silver scuff plate
is also visible on the front bumper, similar to the existing Captur.
The new crossover is based on the CMF-B platform,
which allows Renault to install a series of new powertrains. These are expected
to include a plug-in hybrid with a 9.8 kWh battery that offers an all-electric
range of approximately 50 km. There might also be a mild-hybrid
diesel in the future, alongside the traditional turbo petrol and turbo diesel
engines. The new Captur should make its official debut in the
next couple of months.
