It’s impossible to say Mercedes and off-roader in
the same phrase and not think about the G-Class. However, this story is not
about the boxy-looking icon, but the GLE Coupe, which has been turned by TopCar
into something, well… let’s just say ‘different’.
The tuned Merc is named the Inferno 4×4*2, as the
Inferno 4×4 moniker was previously used on another GLE Coupe (among others). So, what makes this one so
special? That would be the blacked-out bumpers, removed grille, front winch,
new side skirts, rear spare wheel carrier, roof rack with light bar and chunky
off-road tires.
We have no idea
whether the tuned SUV sports upgraded oily bits or if the interior has welcomed
a rugged makeover because, according to the social media post, this is still a
work in progress. Thus, we reckon they’re going to be some changes, though it
wouldn’t be prudent to speculate on what they might actually be.
In all likelihood, this is the AMG variant of the
GLE Coupe, which uses Merc’s “old” 5.5-liter, twin-turbo V8, that puts out 557
PS and 700 Nm of torque in the standard model and
585 PS and 760 Nm in the S. In both cases, the
unit is paired to a 7-speed automatic transmission. The most agile variant hits
100 km/h in 4.2 seconds (4.3 sec for the lesser version) and top speed
can be lifted from 250 km/h to 280 km/h with the optional
AMG Driver’s Package.
