Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ Approved Blue Light
Converter Safeguard SVP division, based in Essex, UK, has unveiled its latest
creation: a cell van.
Based on the a Trendline-trim Transporter, it
features a two-person rear prison cell. An officer to accompany the detainees
gets a separate space and seat and the door latch has been modified to prevent
opening the doors from the inside.
Aside from the redone interior, the van now features
a full police livery, complete with emergency lights on the roof and in the
grille, and a 100-watt siren. Power comes from the stock 2.0-liter diesel four
that’s good for 150 PS according to VW, to deliver a
good balance of performance and fuel economy.
The Transporter prisoner van has already celebrated
its public debut at the NAPFM Emergency Fleet Exhibition last week and joins
two other vehicles converted by Volkswagen this year: the Crafter riot van and
Caddy dog van.
