2019 Renault Kwid facelift is
in the making and will be launched in India this year. The car is inching closer to production stage, which means it is
likely to be introduced here in a few months' time. In its latest iteration,
the new Kwid will come sporting a handful of design changes along with a better
list of features as compared to the existing model.
The new Renault Kwid's design is likely to be
inspired by its electric cousin - Renault City K-ZE - which was unveiled at
the 2019 Auto Shanghai earlier this year. So, expect the Renault Kwid 2019 to
come sporting a new front grille with three chrome slats. This new grille will
be flanked by sleeker headlamps with LED DRLs. Besides this, there could be a
new housing for the fog lamps, broader air dams, a redesigned front bumper, new
design for alloy wheels, and LED taillights.
Inside, the new Kwid's will most likely retain the
dashboard layout, but come sporting slight changes to the upholstery and new
body coloured inserts on the dashboard and door pads. On the feature front, we
expect the infotainment system's screen size to grow to eight-inch from the
seven-inch screen offered on the current model. There is a
possibility that Renault could equip the Kwid with the same system as the one
on the Renault Triber. Expect this infotainment system to offer support for
Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and other run-of-the-mill connectivity
options like USB, AUX, etc.
The outgoing Renault Kwid gets driver side airbag
and ABS as standard, but the 2019 Renault Kwid facelift, in all probability,
will be made available with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking
sensors, high-speed alert as standard across the entire range. Apart from this,
the top-end trim of the Renault Kwid facelift will also get reverse parking
camera.
We expect the 2019
Renault Kwid to continue using the petrol engines that propel the current model,
including a 799 cc unit making 53 bhp and 72 Nm of torque and the more powerful
1.0-litre motor with 67 bhp and 91 Nm of torque on offer. However, one change
which we do expect on the new Kwid is that both the engines will possibly be BS
VI-compliant. Apart from this, we don't think the upcoming Kwid will be
mechanically different than the outgoing Kwid. This means that the new Kwid's
gearbox options will also be the same as on the existing model, i.e. five-speed
manual transmission for both engines and a five-speed AMT option for the
1.0-litre unit.
The 2019 Renault Kwid's prices will demand a slight
premium over the existing range on account of new features and the BS
VI-complaint engines. For reference, the outgoing Renault Kwid's price starts
from ₹ 2.76 lakh and goes all the way to ₹ 4.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
