The new 992-generation Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet
is just around the corner and has been spied in the midst of testing with a
bright red roof and a little less camouflage than previous prototypes. Much like the 991 Turbo, the new
Turbo Cabriolet will look a touch more aggressive than lesser 911 variants but
won’t be quite as overt as models such as the GT3 and GT3 RS. With this in
mind, the front end isn’t particularly aggressive but does consist of large air
intakes and a beefed-up splitter.
At the sides, you’ll inevitably notice a set of
tightly-spoked black wheels sitting over a set of bright yellow brake calipers.
The sports car retains large air intakes directly behind the doors. While this
prototype does feature some tape over the rear fascia, we think this is
actually the nicest angle of the new car.
Whereas the front looks quite tame, the rear looks
much more aggressive thanks to a quartet of squared tailpipes and small air
vents on either side of the bumper. A large rear wing is also featured
alongside a secondary ducktail spoiler. Sources inform us that the new
Porsche 911 Turbo, in both Coupe and Cabriolet forms, will use an updated
version of the company’s current twin-turbo 3.8-liter flat-six engine. The ‘standard’
911 Turbo models will probably pump out somewhere in the region of 600 hp while
the range-topping Turbo S could have upwards of 650 hp.
Like the current car, power will be sent to the
pavement through an all-wheel drive system and a PDK transmission. Both the new
911 Turbo and Turbo S will be capable of reaching 100 km/h in under 3
seconds and continue through to top speeds comfortably exceeding 320
km/h. Porsche will allegedly premiere the new 911 Turbo at September’s
Frankfurt Auto Show but it is unclear if that will only be in Coupe form or if
the Cabriolet will also be unveiled at the same time.
