Muscle cars need to feature large V8s, but stricter
emissions regulations and high taxes have left a mark so deep that you can now
buy a Chevrolet Camaro with a 238 horsepower engine in Russia. These newly launched Shock and
Black special edition models are based on the 2019 Camaro, packing a 2.0-liter
four-banger that develops 37 HP less than the U.S.-spec. Peak torque has remained unchanged at 400 Nm.
Channeling the output to the rear wheels is an
eight-speed automatic transmission, with steering wheel-mounted paddle
shifters. Chevy claims that this version of the Camaro can hit 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, 0.4 seconds slower than its North American counterpart.
The Camaro Shock Edition is offered with a neon
yellow/green paint, contrasted by black decorative stripes and black 20-inch
alloy wheels. It also features ‘Shock Edition’ special badging and black
leather inside. Production is limited to 30 units and each one has an MSRP of
3,415,000 rubles (US$ 53,560) which could
get you two base Camaro Coupes in the States.
Priced at 3,315,000 rubles (US$ 51,992), the Camaro Black
Edition will be even rarer. 20 examples are destined for the Russian market,
all of them with an exclusive black body color, decorative stripes on the front
fenders, 20-inch black alloy wheels and ‘Black Edition’ logos. This version of
the car sports black leather inside, as well as some red decorative elements.
The two special edition cars will arrive at local
dealers this month.
