For a newly-founded brand, Cupra has been quite
productive so far. Besides putting the Ateca performance SUV into production last year,
Seat’s performance brand has already shown its first concept vehicle, the
Formentor crossover. Now it’s time for a second design study from Cupra and this is our
first official look at it courtesy of a 15-second video teaser. Titled “Cupra
Concept Teaser,” the footage reveals the sleek silhouette of what could be a
preview of the next-generation Cupra Leon hot hatch.
The video is not accompanied by any text but giving
the timing of its release we can safely assume that the concept vehicle will
debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The low-slung front end and the
steeply raked windscreen lead us to believe this is not an SUV which only
leaves us with the Leon, Seat’s next big launch.
Camouflaged prototypes of the next-generation Seat
Leon have already been spotted around Europe and while this concept seems
sharper and more aggressive it could preview the upcoming Cupra Leon hot hatch. The video allows us to see the
familiar LED lighting, the illuminated Cupra badge on the bumper, the lower
roofline, and an intricate alloy wheel design. For now we can only speculate
regarding the study’s powertrain but the 245 PS plug-in hybrid system
from the Cupra Formentor should not be ruled out.
Still, the market would definitely welcome a more
powerful power plant and the top dog Cupra Leon should get something in the
region of 300 horsepower or more.
