Dodge has just unveiled its NHRA Funny Car inspired
by the 2020 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody. As you can probably tell from
these photos, the drag racer shares virtually nothing in common with the road car,
albeit for some graphics and the fake headlights and grille which have been
stickered on at the front like a NASCAR. Nevertheless, Dodge’s Funny Car is
pretty interesting.
The first thing to note about the car is that it
pumps out an extraordinary 11,000 hp. While that’s not particularly
mind-blowing for those who know their stuff in the world of drag racing, it
does put into perspective the power offered up by the Charger Hellcat. That
vehicle’s 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine delivers 707 hp and in the world of
street-legal production cars.
Two-time NHRA champion Matt Hagan will race his
Charger-inspired Funny Car at the Bandimere Speedway near Denver, Colorado this
coming weekend as part of the Dodge Mile-High NHRA Nationals.
