A number of Porsche 992s have been spied testing in
California with virtually no camouflage, including a new 911 Targa. This video starts off by showing
a bright pink Carrera S Cabriolet stopping at a red light. Porsche has already
launched the new 911 in Cabriolet guise, so seeing one on the street isn’t
particularly interesting. Up in front of that car, however, there is a Coupe and, of more
interest, a dark blue Targa sitting alongside a black Turbo Cabriolet at the
traffic light.
The 911 Targa didn’t have any badges affixed to its
rear, so it is impossible to know exactly what variant it is. However, the
Targa roof is in full view and appears to be largely identical to the roof
design of previous generations, in that the entire glass canopy behind the
passenger compartment lifts up and makes way for the roof.
Another interesting thing to note about this
prototype is that it features a pair of rectangular-shaped tailpipes. By
comparison, the black Turbo Cabriolet sitting next to it features two large
oval tailpipes, while the Carrera 4S Coupe has quad pipes and the Carrera S
Cabriolet has twin oval-shaped ones.
Porsche clearly doesn’t have a lot to hide with the new Targa and is likely
preparing to unveil the sports car in the coming months, with the official
debut most likely set for September’s Frankfurt Auto Show.
