The 2020 update of the BMW 225xe Active Tourer Hybrid brings along a larger traction battery (10 kilowatt-hours instead of 7.7), if little else.

With the new battery size, you can now drive 55 or 57 kilometers on electrical power until recharging becomes necessary. The pre-facelift version comes manufacturer-rated for 41 km of e-range.

The top going speed remains the same at 202 km/h, as does the standard acceleration time (6.7 seconds). You may now hit 130 km/h in all-electric mode, a slight bump from the former 125 km. A full charging cycle takes up 5 hours, but using the dedicated BMW charging device reduces it to 3 hours 15 minutes.

The powertrain remains otherwise unchanged at 224 hp and 385 Nm of torque total. The transmission is six-speed automatic. Reportedly, fuel consumption has dropped from 2.0-2.1 liters per 100 km to 1.9-2.1 (NEDC-rated) or 1.7-1.9 l (WLTP-rated).

One final novelty of the facelifted BMW 225xe Active Tourer Hybrid comes in the form of a passenger warning system that plays a warning sound when the car moves slower than 30 km/h.
