Launched less than two years ago, the Fiat Cronos
economy sedan has already sold more than 40,000 units in Brazil. Now, the Cronos has received its first updates for the 2020 model
year, chief of which is a new HGT sporty trim level. This range-topping grade
is priced from R$ 78,490 (US$ 19,540) in Brazil and brings exclusive
exterior and interior tweaks with a sporty theme. It also features more
technology and standard features than any other Cronos trim level.
The Cronos HGT can be recognized thanks to the
17-inch black alloys, black deck lid spoiler and mirror caps, darkened front
grille, body-colored door handles, and darkened Fiat logos. Inside, the Fiat Cronos HGT comes
equipped with black headliner and interior trim, a 7-inch instrument panel
display, automatic air conditioning, special fabric for the seats, as well as
darkened Fiat floor mats and logos on the steering wheel and key fob.
As options, customers can have a black roof, leather
seats, rearview camera, side air bags, power folding rearview mirrors,
rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights, electrochromic rearview mirror, and
keyless entry and start. The color palette consists of new colors such as Montecarlo Red and
Silverstone Grey (metallic), in addition to the existing Vulcan Black, Banchisa
White, Vesuvius Black, Bari Silver, Alaska White, and Marsala Red.
There are no modifications made to the 1.8-liter
four-cylinder gasoline engine which is shared with the Argo hatchback. The unit
delivers 132 PS and 182 Nm of torque when running on
gasoline and 139 PS and 189 Nm of torque when fueled with
ethanol.
The only transmission on offer is a six-speed
automatic unit that enables the engine to deliver a reasonably sporty 0-100
km/h time of 9.9 seconds and a top speed of 192 km/h — for
an economy sedan, at least.
