The EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings for the 2020
Ford Explorer Limited Hybrid are out and fans of long road trips will be
pleased. The rear-wheel drive model returns an EPA-estimated 27 mpg (8.7 l/100
km) city/29 mpg (8.1 l/100 km) highway/28 mpg (8.4 l/100 km) combined, which
combined with the 18-gallon fuel tank results in an EPA-estimated driving range
of over 500 miles (805 kilometers) between fill-ups.
Customers who opt for the four-wheel-drive model
will be able to cover over 724 kilometers between fill-ups as the
2020 Explorer Limited Hybrid 4WD has EPA-estimated ratings of 23 mpg (10.2
l/100 km) city/26 mpg (9 l/100 km) highway/25 mpg (9.4 l/100 km) combined.
As Ford exemplifies in the press release, the
driving range of the 2020 Explorer Limited Hybrid RWD is enough to cover a
round trip from New York City to Washington, D.C. (454 miles), from Detroit to
Toronto (466 miles), or from Los Angeles to Las Vegas (just over 500 miles).
The 2020 Ford Explorer Limited Hybrid features a 318
hp 3.3-liter hybrid engine and all-new 10-speed modular hybrid transmission. It
also packs a specially designed liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery, built
directly into its chassis below the second-row seats to help preserve cargo and
passenger space.
The Explorer Limited Hybrid can tow up to 2,268 kg, which is the same as a properly equipped 2019 Explorer with
3.5-liter EcoBoost engine. Ford also wants you to know that the all-new
Explorer Limited Hybrid equipped with a Class III Tow Package tows 680 kg more than a 2019 Toyota Highlander Hybrid — that’s the old model, not
the all-new one.
