Customers who want a big, powerful SUV and can keep
their eco conscience at bay, now have a new choice: the
2020 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4Matic+. The automaker has announced that
European buyers can already place orders for the hybrid SUV that will arrive in
dealerships in November. Prices in Germany start from € 85,501.50 (US$ 94,725), including VAT. Details about the U.S. market are not
available just yet.
For this amount of money, the GLE 53 offers as
standard the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ fully variable AWD system and the AMG Ride
Control+ air suspension with the electromechanical roll stabilization AMG
Active Ride Control.
The 2020 GLE 53 also packs more power than its
predecessor: 435 PS and 520 Nm of torque from a
mild-hybrid twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six gasoline engine paired to an
electric auxiliary compressor.
When needed, the EQ Boost starter-generator electric
motor adds 22 hp and 250 Nm of torque while also feeding the
48-volt on-board electrical system. Mated to the standard AMG Speedshift TCT
9-speed automatic transmission, the engine enables the performance SUV to
sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds and reach an electronically
limited top speed of 250 km/h.
The GLE 53 differentiates itself from lesser
versions thanks a the beefier body kit featuring an AMG-specific radiator
grille with 15 vertical struts, more aggressive bumpers with bigger air intakes
at the front and a diffuser flanked by quad exhausts at the rear, as well as
unique alloys.
Inside, there’s upgraded equipment including the
Mercedes-Benz MBUX infotainment system with the largest displays, a leather-wrapped
AMG Performance steering wheel with aluminum shift paddles, and hallmark red
accents throughout the cabin.
