Hyundai has made some changes to its quirky Veloster, which for the 2020 model year offers more equipment as standard and some minor changes on its exterior design.

The only thing that Hyundai did to the exterior appearance of the 2020 Veloster was to replace the flat black finish of the front grille, front and rear fascia accents and side skirts with gloss black.

Prospective customers of Hyundai’s four-door hatchback -three passenger doors plus the hatch- will find out that the range remains pretty much unchanged, with the exception of the Turbo Ultimate trim level that’s no longer available with a manual transmission.

If you still want a manual to go with your new 2020 Veloster Turbo, you’ll have to pick the Turbo R-Spec model, which now also gets blind-spot collision warning with rear cross traffic warning as standard.

The Turbo is still powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder Gamma engine with 201 HP and 264 Nm of torque. In addition to the aforementioned six-speed manual transmission, Hyundai offers a seven-speed dual-clutch with paddle shifters on the steering wheel as an option. Manual Turbo R-Spec models can also be fitted with an optional B&M Racing sport shifter.

All Turbo models feature what Hyundai calls “Active Engine Sound”, a system that enhances intake and exhaust sounds inside the cabin, as well as wireless device charging as standard. The chassis on the turbocharged Veloster is also fitted with model-specific suspension to provide a more fun-to-drive experience.

Base 2020 Veloster models are still powered by a naturally aspirated, 2.0-liter four-cylinder that runs on the Atkinson cycle for better efficiency. Its output is rated at 147 HP and 179 Nm of torque, with a six-speed manual as standard and a six-speed auto as an option.

All 2020 Velosters come fitted with Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and Lane Keeping Assist as standard. Hyundai also offers High Beam Assist in conjunction with the LED headlights, Smart Cruise Control and more, and are already available at Hyundai’s dealerships.
