We’ve already seen that BMW is planning a facelift
for the 5 Series so it should come as no surprise that the 6 Series GT is also
in for a refresh. Formerly known as the 5 Series GT, the 6 Series GT launched only two years
ago but the automaker is already working on a makeover as sales have been
disappointing so far.
As with the facelifted 5 Series, the BMW 6 Series GT
will sport a refreshed front end and a very subtle update to the back. The
camouflage tape covers the grille, bumper, and even a portion of the
headlights, hinting at a significant facelift. Expect revised headlights with a
new LED signature, a redesigned bumper with differently styled air intakes, and
a new and possibly bigger kidney grille.
Looking at the camouflage applied to the rear end
it’s pretty clear that the changes are much more modest than at the front. The
bumper will receive subtle updates and the LED taillights are likely to gain
fresh graphics as well — though this particular prototype caught during hot
weather testing in southern Europe still features the old lamps.
The interior is expected to remain largely the same
given that the 6 Series GT is only two years old, save for some trim and color
updates. However, BMW could operate some changes to the infotainment system and
give the Gran Turismo model the latest 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and
10.25-inch infotainment system from the 8 Series.
As for the powertrains, expect the same updates as
for the 5 Series which means we could see a plug-in hybrid 6 Series GT come
facelift time.
