Nearly two years
after its debut, the Jeep Wrangler JL has been finally launched in India. The
lighter, longer, wider and taller Jeep Wrangler with extra wheelbase is
available at 10 dealerships in the country.
The Jeep Wrangler
JL is available in many different configurations internationally, but in India,
there's only one on offer. Our market gets the 5-door version 'Unlimited' in a
single equipment line. Compared to its predecessor, it's 130 mm longer, 17 mm
wider and 9 mm taller. The fourth-gen model has 61 mm of extra wheelbase. The
ground clearance has improved by 29 mm to 215 mm. The approach angle, break
over angle and departure angle are measured at 41.8 degrees, 21 degrees and
36.1 degrees respectively.
The Indian-spec
Jeep Wrangler Unlimited JLU employs the newly developed 2.0-litre GME T4
turbocharged petrol engine that produces 268 HP and 400 Nm of torque. This
engine features stop/start function and is linked to the 8-speed 850 RE
automatic transmission. The SelecTrac 4WD system with 2.71:1 crawl ratio is
standard in the fourth-gen model sold in the market.
On the outside, the
2019 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited features LED headlamps, LED fog lamps, LED DRLs,
18-inch alloy wheels with Granite Crystal spokes and LED tail lamps. Interior
highlights include black leather upholstery, 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment
system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and sat-nav, 7-inch driver information
display, 'Grillz' finish on bezels, handles and knobs, weather-proof push-start
button, dual-zone climate control and 9-speaker Alpine music system with an
overhead soundbar, all-weather subwoofer and 552-watt amplifier.
On the safety
front, the fourth-gen Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is equipped with features like
reverse parking camera, ESC, dual-front and front side airbags.
