Lotus has confirmed that its all-electric Evija
hypercar will make its public debut at the Monterey Car Week next month. Speaking with CNET, Lotus
officials confirmed the car will be displayed during The Quail: A Motorsports
Gathering on Friday, August 16.
The Monterey Car Week routinely attracts the
planet’s most expensive automobiles and Lotus will inevitably hope to lock in
some orders for the Evija from the many wealthy collectors who attend the
week-long automotive festivities in California.
Only select journalists and customers have had the
opportunity to see the Lotus Evija in the couple of weeks since it made its
staggering global premiere. In pictures and on video, it looks absolutely
staggering and we imagine in the flesh it is even more remarkable.
Powering the Evija are four electric motors that
pump out a combined 1,973 HP and 1700 Nm of torque. Lotus says it
will hit 100 km/h in less than three seconds, 300 km/h in 9
seconds, and go on to a top speed exceeding 320 km/h. Not only does
the Evija promise to be virtually unmatched in a straight-line by any other car
currently in production, but it will also produce huge amounts of downforce and
could be taken to the Nurburgring chasing an EV road car record.
Unsurprisingly, Lotus’ first-ever hypercar is not
cheap. Prices start at US$ 2.1 million, with a US$ 310,177 deposit required to secure
one of the 130 units that will be manufactured.
