The Mercedes-AMG E53 Coupe arrived on the scene in
2018 as part of the AMG 53-series of models, joined by the E53 Cabriolet and
the CLS 53. These models introduced the firm’s mild-hybrid 3.0 litre
turbocharged inline-six engines, which produce 435 hp and 520 Nm of torque. This is sent to a nine-speed AMG
Speedshift TCT 9G automatic and an AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive
system. Given that the E53 Coupe was launched just last year, it remains to be
seen if the engine will gain any extra output.
With a mid-lifecycle facelift coming for the
mainstream C238 E-Class Coupe, the E53 will naturally follow suit, and so here
the AMG version is seen. This means the E53 Coupe facelift wears a set of
visual updates similar to its sedan, station wagon and X213 All-Terrain
siblings, bringing to the range the new face that was introduced on the W177
A-Class.
The dual character lines on the bonnet of other
E-Class models remain here on the E53 facelift, and the unchanged glasshouse
means the B-pillarless design is carried over. In fact, much of the C238 body
is carried over, though a key identifier should comprise of the new OLED tail
lamps which appeared earlier on the S-Class Coupe.
Minor changes appear to be applied to the sections
surrounding the tail lamps as well, though this is still concealed under
camouflage tape for the time being. No changes have been applied below the
bootlid, as the rear bumper appears to carry over the same sculpting, ducts,
diffuser and quad-tailpipe arrangements. The interior of this facelifted
E53 Coupe has yet to be seen, though any changes can also be expected to be
sparing, our sources suggest that a revised iteration of the MBUX infotainment
suite could be part of this update.
