Audi is preparing to launch an all-new generation of
RS7 – and if it, as we suspect, looks close to this, then Ingolstadt will, in
all likelihood, have a winner in its hands. The rendering comes from Carlifestyle and takes the
design of the new RS6 Avant and morphs it into the Sportback bodystyle of the
existing A7. It’s hard to deny that the new RS6 looks mean, and the RS7 looks even
more aggressive than Audi’s new performance estate.
Up front, the actual RS7 will likely share the same
fascia as the RS6, meaning a massive black grille, triangular air intakes and
sharp headlights. It will also come fitted with large brakes and wheels as well
as new side skirts. Spy shots of the car indicate that its rear will be updated
with dual, oval-shaped tailpipes, a subtle trunklid lip spoiler and a beefier
rear bumper similar in design to the RS6’s.
Powering the forthcoming 2020 RS7 will be the same
hybridized, 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 as the new RS6 Avant. This means it will deliver 591 HP
and 800 Nm of torque through all four wheels. Peak horsepower will
be down slightly from the previous-generation RS6 Avant and RS7 Performance,
which had 597 HP, but torque is higher thanks to the addition of the 48-volt
mild-hybrid system.
The world of super sedans has moved on quite a lot
in the past couple of years, thanks to the latest Mercedes-AMG E 63 S and BMW
M5 Competition. Audi will be looking to take the fight to them with the latest
RS7 and, given its latest stylistic choices as well as the potent powertrain,
it should prove a force to be reckoned with.
