Vauxhall has opened the order books for its first
mainstream plug-in hybrid model, the Grandland X Hybrid 4. Prices for the new Grandland X
Hybrid 4 start from £ 35,590 for the entry-level Business Edition Nav Premium,
and includes three other grades: the SRi Nav at £ 40,300, the Elite Nav at
£ 42,200, and the range-topping Ultimate Nav at £ 45,450.
Power is provided by PSA’s plug-in hybrid powertrain
that combines a 196 Hp turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder with two 108 HP electric
motors and a 13.2kWh battery pack. The system’s total combined output is rated
at 296 hp, with Vauxhall claiming an average fuel economy of 176.5 mpg
UK (147 mpg US) and CO2 emissions of just 36 g/km.
The second electric motor is mounted on the rear
axle, making the Grandland X Hybrid4 all-wheel drive, while the front is
connected to the engine’s eight-speed automatic transmission. 0-100 km/h comes in 7 seconds, there are four driving modes (electric, hybrid, AWD and
Sport) and, in pure electric mode, the Grandland X Hybrid4 can cover up to 52 km)on the WLTP cycle.
The electrified Grandland X also comes with a 3.3kW
on-board charger, but customers can opt for a faster 6.6kW version. Vauxhall
will also offer owners a 7.4kW wallbox, so they can recharge their new
Grandland X Hybrid4 in less that two hours.
The first examples of Vauxhall’s electrified SUV are
expected to arrive in UK dealerships in January 2020.
