Ever since the 1M Coupe broke cover nearly 9 years
ago, BMW has constantly upped the game in the segment. Its successor, the M2,
debuted in 2015 and was updated, and renamed the M2 Competition, last spring.
Now, the Germans are working on the M2 CS, a more
hardcore version of the sports coupe, which is currently in testing phase.
Snapped at the Nurburgring, it looks like a proper contender to the likes of
the Porsche Cayman GT4.
A true car aimed at driving enthusiasts, it’s
expected to retain the 3.0-liter, twin-turbo inline-six of the Competition,
albeit tuned to 444 HP. That’s 39 HP more than the Competition which, combined
with a weight loss, will help it hit the 96 km/h mark in less than 4
seconds. The M2 Competition can do it in 4.0 seconds when equipped with the
dual-clutch gearbox, and a couple of tenths more with the stick shift.
Helping shave some precious weight be a carbon fiber
roof, front spliter, hood, side mirror caps, rear diffuser and spoiler. The
lightweight material will be used inside as well, on the seats, door handles
and center console. According to reports, BMW might put a cap on the production, making
the CS in just 2,200 units. Whatever the case might be, we expect it to bow at
the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.
