Chevrolet announced the 2020 Corvette C8 would be
priced from US$ 59,995 – including a US$ 1,095 destination charge – in the United
States last month, but now the company has revealed how much Canadians will
have to shell out.
As promised, the car will cost under CAD 70,000. Just barely though, as the model will retail for CAD 69,998 including a
destination charge of CAD 2,000. While that sounds pretty
expensive, the model is actually more affordable than the American variant. At
current exchange rates, CAD 69,998 is CAD 52,757 so Canadians effectively
gets the Corvette for CAD 7,238 USD.
Putting aside the currency conversions, the base
Corvette 1LT comes nicely equipped with a power adjustable leather steering
wheel, 8-way power leather seats and a 10-speaker Bose premium audio system.
Drivers will also find a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8-inch
infotainment system and a dual-zone climate control system. Other highlights
include cruise control, rear park assist, an HD rear vision camera and a
keyless entry system with a push-button ignition.
Motivation comes from a mid-mounted 6.2-liter V8
engine that produces 490 hp and 630 Nm of torque.
It is connected to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission which sends power to
the rear wheels. The mid-level Corvette 2LT starts at CAD 79,898 CAD and features
additional standard equipment. Highlights include heated / ventilated seats, a
heated steering wheel and a 14-speaker Bose Performance Series sound system.
The model also boasts a color head-up display, a wireless smartphone charger, a
performance data recorder and GPS navigation.
Rounding out the highlights are a universal home
remote, an advanced theft deterrent system, an auto-dimming rear camera mirror
and a memory package for the seats. Last but not least, there are a handful of
driver assistance systems including side blind zone alert, rear cross traffic
alert and a front curb view camera. The range-topping Corvette 3LT
begins at CAD 85,398 and adds special GT2 seats with carbon fiber trim as well as
Napa and Mulan leather upholstery. The model also has leather-wrapped door
panels and suede accents.
An assortment of options will be available including
the Z51 Performance Package which costs CAD 5,900. It adds a front splitter, a
rear spoiler, a performance exhaust and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer-only
tires. Other goodies include a performance suspension, an electronic limited
slip rear differential, larger Brembo brake discs, revised axle ratios and an
improved cooling system.
Customers can also order a front suspension lift
system for CAD 1,875 and a performance exhaust for CAD 1,375. The latter
increases the engine’s output to 495 hp and 637
Nm of torque.
