The new generation Hyundai Veloster has launched
Down Under, retaining the 2+1 body style of its predecessor. Offered in three trim levels
named the Veloster, Turbo and Turbo Premium, it’s priced from AUD 29,490 (US$ 20,012),
AUD 35,490 (US$ 24,083) and AUD 38,990 (US$ 26,459), respectively.
All grades pack several standard connectivity and
safety items, with the most affordable getting LED DRLs, a reversing camera
with dynamic guidelines, Reverse Parking Distance Warning system and
tire-pressure monitoring.
Upgrade to the Veloster Turbo and you will enjoy a
8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation and DAB+
digital radio, in addition to the High Beam Assist, Blind-Spot Collision Warning
and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning. Get it with the 7-speed dual-clutch
automatic transmission, from AUD 38,490 (US$ 26,119), and you will also
receive Smart Cruise Control, City/Urban/Interurban/Pedestrian Forward
Collision Avoidance Assist and an upgraded camera.
The Turbo Premium adds a full-width glass sunroof,
leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel,
head-up display and wireless charging pad. The metallic paint is an AUD 595
(US$ 404) option on all trim levels, whereas the flagship spec can be ordered
with the AUD 1,000 (US$ 679) two-tone roof.
Powering the base model is a 2.0-liter, naturally
aspirated four producing 147 HP and 180 Nm of torque,
paired to a standard six-speed manual or an optional six-speed automatic. The
two plusher grades get the 1.6-liter turbocharged unit, with 201 HP and 265 Nm of torque, or 275 Nm with over-boost,
matched to EITHER a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
