Brabus has introduced the new Ultimate E at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Based on the pre-facelift Smart EQ ForTwo Cabrio, the model is billed as a “pocket rocket” that features unique styling inside and out.

The limited edition has an upgraded powertrain that produces up to 91 hp and 180 Nm of torque. Given those modest numbers, it shouldn’t be surprising to learn the roadster accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 10.9 seconds and has a top speed of 130 km/h.

The performance of the car is controlled by a so-called “driving fun switch” which is located in the cabin. It has four different settings including a Level 1 mode which makes the car respond like a typical EQ ForTwo Cabrio. Eco mode increases the energy recovery rate, while Sport mode reduces it and features a more responsive accelerator. Sport+ mode is the most interesting of the group as it unlocks the car’s full performance potential including the aforementioned output which is 10 hp and 20 Nm more than the standard model.

Besides the performance changes, the car has been equipped with a widebody kit, 18-inch wheels and special paint. Customers can select their preferred color, but the show car has a Royal Purple finish.

The unique styling continues in the cabin as the model has Mastik leather and Alcantara seats which feature bright green contrast stitching. Other highlights include aluminum pedals, a Brabus-branded shifter and illuminated door sill plates.

Production will be limited to 28 units and German pricing starts at € 58,845 (US$ 65,019) including a 19 percent VAT. Needless to say, that’s pretty steep considering the car only has a range of up to 125 km.
