The patent images of a new model under the NEV
series, the BYD e3, have been released by China's Ministry of Industry and
Information Technology (MIIT). Built on BYD's e platform, the e3 displays a
striking resemblance to the e2. The massive hexagonal grille and slim
headlights with sharp lines present the styling of the “Dragon Face” that is
supposed to be the bespoke design language for models of the Dynasty series.
The BYD e2 features a “floating” roof relying on the
usage of a black roof and black A, B and C pillars, while it doesn’t appear in
the e3, according to MIIT's photos. The taillight cluster stretching across the entire
tailgate and the trapezoidal license plate frame make the e3's relation to the
e2 apparent at first glance in terms of rear end design.
The BYD e3 measures 4,450 mm long, 1,760 mm wide and
1,520 mm tall. Wheelbase of the new mode spans 2,610 mm, according to the Chinese
authority.
Besides, the e3 will be powered by an electric motor
that is good for up to 100kW. Parameters about the battery and range still
remain unknown.
